Becky has some bookmarks out that say shift the way you shop. It says that if you shift 10% of your spending to a local business you’ll improve your local economy. An interesting figure they noted was that for every $100 you spend at a local business, $43 remains in the local economy vs. $13 that remains when shopping at a non-locally owned business. If you go to their website, there is a calculator that shows you the impact that you can have on your local community. I have heard about this before, but did not have any actual data on it. I urge you to check it out.
