Somewhither to Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art

It was an afternoon of discover yesterday at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. While at the library last week, I was able to pick up a culture pass for the Museum. Culture passes are a great way to see different museums and zoos around Phoenix – for free! And it’s good for up to four adults as well. Click here for more info on Culture Passes.

Nestled in Downtown Scottsdale, the museum is small but mighty. There are currently two exhibitions – the first one we wandered into was Chuck Close Prints. These prints are enormous! The shear size alone make them noteworthy, but it is attention to the detail to each print showcases that make them more so. I also enjoyed the fact that they showed the process of how the various prints were make. It gives more of in insight of the artist and the time it takes for each print to be created. You get to see giant wood blocks, stencils, and etchings. The museum also has a leaflet on the process and the grid process he uses.

The second exhibit was Rewind Remix Replay: Design, Music & Everyday Experience. What a flashback! Old record players, boomboxes, walkmans up to music devises of today – ipods and mp3 plays. They even had the exact same pair of earphones on display that I had in my purse (well, it was a different color). They have stations where you can interact with various electronic devises, and you can even bring in your own records and do a little dj action. I enjoyed the time line of music achievements. There is a play at the end of the exhibit where you can recycle old records, cassetteĀ  tapes and cds too.

The Scottsdale Center For Preforming Arts is next door with a lovely little park area to walk around with fountains. After a little stroll my friend and I lunched atĀ  Los Olivos, a Mexican restaurant nearby. I had some yummy fish tacos and my friend said that her chimechanga (now I have no idea if I am spelling that correctly) was really good. It is a family restaurant that has been there for years.

Overall, it was a nice afternoon, although the museum was smaller than what I thought it would be. It had exhibits I enjoyed and you can visit for free on Thursdays as well. I would check out their website for more information.
