Vintage Sequin Bracelets

I came across a blog by following some link on Pintest on some great bracelets made from sequins. Unfortunately, I did not bookmark it, thinking it would be easy to find again. And can I find it? No. So I would give the author/maker credit, but I can’t find it. But here are two of my inspired creations using vintage sequins. I thought when I first saw them, that they would be really easy and quick to make. And that is mostly true, when I finally got a system going. To make these bracelets, you will need:

  • Sequins, it will be lots easier if you get them pre-strung
  • Stretch Magic cord
  • Beads or embroidery floss
  • Scissors
  • Superglue

First, cut the length you want for your bracelet plus about 5-6 inches extra from the Stretch Magic. If you have never used Stretch Magic before, make sure the pull/stretch it many times before you start stringing your beads. That way it won’t get stretched out later and be too big for your wrist.

Next, put something so your beads/sequins don’t fall off the end. I have a cool spring thing that I put on the end. You can also us a binder clip. Then start putting your sequins on. Make sure they all sit in the same direction. It’s easier if you take up to a 1/4″ between your thumb and finger off the strand. Then you can put the cord through a whole bunch at once. Of course, when I did my first one, they fell all over the place and was very annoying. It doesn’t take long to get the process going.

On the blog I saw, the author/maker tied off the cord when it got to the size they wanted. There is a trick of doing overhand knots at 5 times and then sealing with glue, I used superglue, to keep it from coming apart. Then the author/maker made a tassel out of embroidery floss over the know to hide it. As you can see from the photos above, I used beads to hind my knots.

If you like the them, but don’t want to spend the time to make them, I have the ones above in my ArtFire shop in the bracelet section, or http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/studio/SomewhitherArts/1/1/11190// if you need to copy and paste.
