Savvy by Ingrid Law

I had been tossing around the idea about writing up book reviews for overĀ  a year. One, because I read books, love to read. It is a skill my mom taught me early on, and I have memories of sitting with her in bed reading away. I try and read what my kids read – for school or for pleasure. I want to see what they are taking in. So, after reading Savvy by Ingrid Law, I thought why not. Even if it’s not my savvy, I’ll have fun doing it.

This is a young readers book. When my my not-very-enthusiastic-reader of a 11 year old daughter asked me to buy it for her, I could hardly say no. It’s about a girl who is turning 13 gets her savvy, or special talent you could call it. But her father ends up unconscious in the hospital 90 miles away right before her special day – Mibs decides she must get there.

Of course this leads her on an adventure, where things seem to get worse and worse. Mibs makes friends, which is a first, and together they see it through with a few twists and turns. I would say more, but that would ruin it.

In my copy, there are discussion questions in the back and a preview of the next story of the Beaumont family. Because of the cover, I think it looks like more of a book for a girl then a boy, but there are good male characters in there are well. And a bit of good advice from a “perfect” momma.
