A place to go, a destination to art.
My life journey as an artist started at Northern Arizona University where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in painting. From there I grew wings and learned about the addictive world of beading at an American Indian Scouting Association. Then a best friend of mine introduced me to the world of scrapbooking. I like to say that I went kicking and screaming, but that’s really not quite true. What I did discover is that I like each skill that I learned, and I love combining everything together. I am also keen on repurposing of items into new pieces of jewelry or artwork.
What drives me is color and texture. Very dark subtle shades, to earth tones – warm and rich to bright and full of energy. Thick brush strokes are a favorite of mine. I fully believe that when I am making a piece, that the energy of how I feel is integrated into the piece. I will also use words, phrases or quotes in my mixed media work as well to propel sentiment. I want people to not only see the artwork, but to feel the artwork. One of the greatest joys to me is when a fellow artist tells me that one of my pieces inspired them in their craft. I am also very pleased when I get to connection to another person because the piece was “speaking to them”.
